Itinerary:

Day 1: San Pedro Sula

Arrival day, no activities planned, check into the hotel and enjoy the day.

Day 2,3: Copan Ruins

The Copan Ruins in Honduras are fascinating, beautiful and unique among Mayan cities. Visitors walk through grassy plazas filled with intricately carved and decorated monuments, statues and staircases. Huge carved faces stare at you from ancient walls and bring the place to life, causing renewed wonder at the mysterious disappearance of such a creative civilization. Though smaller and less grand than Tikal, in Guatemala, Copan contains some of the most important Mayan ruins found to date, and many unusual artistic features. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980.

Day 4-6: Roatan Bay Islands

Roatan is an island paradise that quickens the pulse of any snorkeller or scuba diver. The largest of the Bay Islands, Roatan is surrounded by over 100km of living, protected reef that is home to thousands of species of fantastically coloured fish and marine life. The beaches of the west end are some of the most beautiful in the world, with clear turquoise water, powdery white sand and swaying coconut palms. While many people spend their days immersed in the warm, blue Caribbean waters and enjoying excellent fresh seafood, you may also opt to venture into the hilly interior. The botanical gardens offer relaxed walking amidst exotic plants and racing “Jesus Lizards”, a species of lizard that runs on its hind legs, even over water! In nearby Sandy Bay the Institute for Marine Sciences and the Roatan museum are definitely worth a visit. As we leave Roatan by ferry, you will catch a glimpse of Honduras pristine northern coastline and famous Mosquito Coast.

Day 7,8: Tela

Home to pale powdery sand beaches, coconut trees, and many Garifuna villages, we can relax here in a hammock or hit the National Parks for a variety of activities. Near by is Punta Izopo Natonal Park for kayaking the maze of mangrove creeks and Rio Platano. (world heritage site) There is also Punta Sal National Park for snorkeling, jungle hiking, and a lagoon boat tour. Los Micos Lagoon offers abundant marine life, birds and monkeys. You may also want to visit Lancetilla Botanical Garden, famous through out Honduras for studies of the cultivation of various tropical plants and fruit trees, founded by the United Fruit Co. in 1926. The best way to get here is by bike.

Day 9: San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula is Honduras' second largest city and is the Chiquita Banana distribution center. Take a city tour to view the cathedral, and visit Mercado de Artesanias Guamilito for souvenirs or arrange for a guided tour of Parque Nacional Cusuco, a cloud forest park with many quetzals, toucans and parrots. Our excursion to Lake Yojoa and Pulhapanzak Waterfall will be a refreshing end to the tour.
