Description:
Join us for an exciting journey on the world's most famous river. The Amazon Basin is the most ecologically diverse region on earth, home to 20 percent of the world's bird species, 20 percent of all plant species, 10 percent of mammals and thousands of undiscovered species. A journey down the Amazon is the true nature lovers dream. To travel deep in the Amazon is a feast for the senses not easily experienced anywhere else on earth. Waking to the boisterous roar of a gang of red howler monkeys high in the canopy above the ship, spotting a pair of brilliantly colored scarlet macaw darting through the treetops, stealthily seeking the piercing orange eyes of black caiman on an after dark Zodiac excursion, or catching a glimpse of the Amazon's endemic pink Boto river dolphin, are all memories you will carry with you long after disembark. Not only well known for its diversity of flora and fauna, the Amazon is also home to a wide variety of interesting native groups and cultures. During our voyage we'll have the opportunity to meet and interact with a number of different tribes and communities that call the shores of the Amazon home.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Manaus
Depart Manaus in the evening.
Day 2-6: Lower Amazon
Snaking through the Lower Amazon, the Breves and Tajapuru Narrows are a series of narrow waterways and small islands. Houses dot the shoreline and locals often paddle out to greet our ship. Witness the bizarre “Wedding of the Waters,” where the different coloured waters of the dark and light tributaries of the Amazon collide. A frequent stop in this area is the village of Alter do Chao (Altar of Heaven) with its Centre for Preservation of Indigenous Arts. This island fishing village features stilted houses and a turquoise lagoon, with one of the nicest white-sand beaches on the Rio Tapajos. Possible visit to Lago Carauacu, a clear-water lake, home to both species of the Amazon freshwater dolphins; the small grey tucuxi and the pink boto.
Day 7: Depart Belem
We pull into port at Belem in the early morning for disembarkation.
