El Salvador's Pacific Coast Description
The small stretch of Pacific Coast in El Salvador is largely undiscovered by tourists, but there are some resorts and popular surfing spots as well.
La Libertad - La Libertad is the main beach for sun-seeking San Salvadorans. It's just 21 miles (34 km) away from teh capital and fills up during the dry season (November to April) which is also the surf season. The black volcanic sand can get hot so bring sandals. There is a wide selection of lodging and restaurants. Be weary of theives after dark, but enjoy the excellent surf during the day. This is also one of the more reasonable beach spots in El Salvador for those on a budget.
Playa Costa del Sol - Playa Costa del Sol is a thin stretch of Pacific peninsula that is slowly being developed as a tourist resort. Playa Costa del Sol has long sandy beaches that get pretty busy on weekends. Camping and cabana rental is available at fairly reasonable prices. In general, however, this beach town tends to be a bit pricier than most.
