Galapagos Description
Some savvy visitors opt to base their Galapagos experience from the town of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. One can do activities not available on the standard boat tours that 97% of tourists opt for, such as mountain biking and horseback riding through the highlands of Santa Cruz. Also readily available is sea kayaking, snorkelling, expansive white-sand beaches, scuba diving day trips, surfing, and excursions to the populated islands of Isabela, San Cristobal and Floreana.
A few budget hotels and hostels exist in Puerto Ayora, so arranging last-minute cruises and day trips from the central island can often be a more economical option for the budget traveler.
