Mexico City, normally, though not necessarily your point of arrival in Mexico, is worth a few days if you are interested in Mexican culture. As the worlds most populous city, it is at once wonderful and terrible; a mix of green parks and pollution, charming colonial buildings and utilitarian high rises, world famous museums and never ending slums, but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
Mexico City offers such an immense and varied array of travel destinations and attractions that you could literally spend years exploring the country and not see and do everything. The obvious advantage is that it's just a short flight away from the US and the entire country can be reached via Mexico Citys air and land transportation hubs.
