Baos is one of the most popular destinations in the Ecuadorian Sierra. The town is dominated by hostels and touristy restaurants and cafes. Apart from food and a small but boisterous nightlife, you have to go outside of the town limits to find outdoor activities. With plenty of hiking, bike paths, nearby spas, and tours this is not hard to do.
Due to recent volcanic activity of the Tunguragua Volcano, it is recommended to check with local authorities before visiting Baos. Roads are often closed. In 2000 the town was completely evacuated, but there has not been any serious recent damage due to volcanic activity.
