Argentine Andes Travel Overview

The Argentine Andes feature some excellent ski resorts, some of South America's best wine country in and around Mendoza and breathtaking landscapes at national parks like the Parque Provincial Ischigualasto and the Parque Nacional Talampaya. Trips to the Andes can be combined with a trip to Chile, as the border runs right along the mountain range.

The best ski resorts in the Argentine Andes are Bariloche, an Andean village that looks more like Switzerland and has a ski resort to match; Villavicencio, which is near some Amerindian ruins and has excellent facilities; Valle de las Lenas, a world-class ski resort with excellent powder skiing; and Mendoza.

Divided into North, Central and South, each region features different highlights. In the north, find the Pampas (prairie land), spectacular canyons, the colonial city of Salta, indigenous populations, cloud forests and the Chaco desert. The central area features wine country, Argentina's second-biggest city of Crdoba, and skiing in and around Mendoza. The southern Andes feature the Lake District, the best skiing in Argentina, hiking and other water sports.
